Prince Dante Escanor of Meridian is Queen Elyon's only son and therefore the current sole heir to the throne. His father was the former rebel Diego, a Shifter from the other side of Metamoor. 

 Although he has a kind and submissive nature, the people of his land don't seem to like their prince at all and don't fancy the idea of him being the next ruler of Meridian, and this is mostly due to a mix of a general prejudice against male heirs ( Meridian should be always ruled by a Queens according to the ways of old) and Dante's terrifying physical resemblance to his uncle Phobos, the dark Prince who tyrannised the world four countless years. 

 Because of all those people's beliefs and his shy personality Dante was very lonely for a good portion of his young life having only his mother for company and solace.
